Scolmore sponsors first national apprentice competition

Scolmore sponsors first national apprentice competition

As part of its on-going commitment to providing support for the training and development of students looking to make their way in the sector, Scolmore Group is sponsoring the first ever Apprentice of the Year competition to be launched by NICEIC and ELECSA.

Open to all Level 3 students, the Electrical Apprentice of the Year competition will seek to test the skills and knowledge of those candidates who put themselves forward, with the brightest talents to be rewarded with a range of prizes – including iPads and a £500 holiday voucher - with the overall winner receiving a £2000 holiday voucher.

There are three stages to the competition. An online assessment to test levels of electrical knowledge will be open to all students, with the top 20% qualifying for the next round – a 90 minute practical exam to be held at one of seven locations across the UK and marked by industry experts, Tony Cable and Darren Staniforth. Eight students with the highest scores from stage two will go through to the final.Taking place at Scolmore Group’s head offices in Tamworth, Staffordshire, on the 9th June, the grand final will require candidates to complete a number of challenging practical tasks over the course of the day. The Electrical Apprentice of the Year will be announced at a special barbecue and awards ceremony to be held at The Belfry Hotel & Resort.

Commenting on the company’s association with the initiative, Marie Parry, Scolmore group marketing manager said:  “We value highly the role that NICEIC and ELECSA play in educating and developing the electricians of the future and we are excited to be playing a key role in this prestigious award, which will encourage the next generation of talent.”
